Training programs

Focused board-and-train options

Usually 5–6 days · May take longer

Basic & Intermediate

$850

On-leash training. Foundation obedience, recall, place, leash manners, heel, impulse control and dependable everyday manners. Basic training usually takes 5–6 days; some dogs need more time depending on their drive, focus, and willingness to learn.

Advanced obedience: up to 14 days or longer

Advanced & Service-Dog Track

$2,500

Off-leash advanced obedience with service-dog training for temperament-appropriate dogs. Timing depends on the dog’s breed, learning ability, and selected training goals. Socialization and CGC screening are required. Service-dog suitability is not guaranteed. CGC evaluation is separate.

Service-dog screening requirements

Service-dog screening & suitability

Dogs being considered for our service-dog training program must be appropriately socialized and undergo an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation. Mark will consider the CGC results, the dog’s temperament, behavior around people and other animals, and ability to learn the required tasks when determining suitability. Passing the CGC test alone does not guarantee acceptance into or successful completion of service-dog training. The CGC evaluation fee is $30.

Positive reinforcement. Reward-based training. All training uses positive reinforcement and rewards to teach and reinforce desired behaviors. Mark adapts each program to the dog’s drive, focus, motivation, and individual learning pace.

Training Time & Individual Needs

Every dog learns at a different pace. Breed characteristics, age, temperament, drive, focus, and previous training can affect the time needed. Basic and intermediate training typically takes 5–6 days; advanced training may take up to 14 days or longer.

For our Basic & Intermediate and Advanced Obedience programs, additional days needed for normal learning progress within the agreed program are included at no extra charge. Dogs requiring specialized behavior work or a substantially extended program will be assessed individually, with any different pricing discussed and agreed upon before enrollment.

If unexpected needs arise during training, Mark will discuss the options with you before changing the program. No additional training charges will be added without your approval. The training schedule and pickup or delivery date are agreed based on the dog’s progress.

CGC evaluation: $30.

Personal, one-on-one owner instruction with every training program. At pickup or delivery, Mark McFarlin personally demonstrates what your dog has learned and works one-on-one with you to show you how to continue the training at home. You will practice the cues and techniques used during your dog’s program so you can reinforce those skills consistently.

Required before intake

Records first. Training second.

Every dog must have a complete copy of current vaccination records on file before entering any training program. No dog can be accepted without them.

Dogs entering or returning for board-and-train must be at least 16 weeks old, have completed the required vaccinations, and have waited the period recommended by their veterinarian before entering a training or boarding environment. Turning 16 weeks old alone does not mean a puppy is ready for admission.

Returning Puppies & Health Requirements

01

Vaccination records

Provide a complete, current copy before the scheduled training intake. A hard copy will be retained in the dog’s kennel file.

02

Training contract

Complete and sign the training agreement before your dog enters the program. Save a copy for your records.

Health & behavior disclosure

Include veterinary, medication, bite-history and behavior information in your agreement so care and training can be planned for your dog.

Returning Puppies & Health Requirements

Puppies that go home with their new owners may return for obedience training at 16 weeks of age or older, after completing the required vaccinations and any waiting period recommended by their veterinarian. This applies whether or not the puppy completed Puppy Foundations.

Records reviewed before admission. Owners must provide current veterinary vaccination records for review before a return date is confirmed. The puppy’s veterinarian should confirm that the vaccination schedule and waiting period are appropriate for entering a training or boarding environment.

Report illness or exposure before arrival. Tell Mark about recent vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, nasal discharge, unusual lethargy, or known exposure to a contagious illness. Do not bring a sick puppy to the facility for assessment. Training may be postponed, and veterinary clearance may be required before admission or return.

These requirements apply to all dogs entering or returning for training, including puppies purchased from McFarlin. Vaccination reduces disease risk but does not eliminate it. Admission depends on the dog’s health and completion of our intake requirements.

About Me

Meet Mark McFarlin.

I’m Mark McFarlin, owner and trainer at McFarlin Malinois K-9 Training in Fortson, Georgia. I’m a certified trainer through Mad Max Malinois and an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator. My work focuses on Belgian Malinois, practical obedience, and helping owners build a dependable working relationship with their dogs.

I personally train every dog in my care. I work with a small number of dogs at a time so I can give each one individual attention and keep training consistent. All of my training uses positive reinforcement and reward-based methods. From basic and intermediate obedience to advanced and service-dog training, I consider each dog’s temperament, progress, and the owner’s goals when planning their program.

As a Belgian Malinois breeder, I also offer Puppy Foundations for puppies purchased from me. These early lessons introduce skills that owners can continue developing as their puppy grows.

Training includes you, too. At pickup or delivery, I work with you one-on-one, demonstrate what your dog has learned, and show you how to continue practicing at home. My goal is for you to leave with a clear understanding of how to work with your dog and build on that progress together.

Pickup and delivery are arranged in advance.

Give your puppy a head start while they are still in our care. Mark personally provides short, reward-based sessions that introduce attention, coming when called, simple cues, and collar and leash familiarity.

This optional early foundation program prepares your puppy for continued learning at home and later basic obedience. Skills develop at each puppy’s pace; continued practice with the new owner is essential.

Meet your puppy. Buyers may arrange a visit to meet their puppy and discuss training with Mark before pickup. Visits are by appointment and follow our puppy health precautions.

Continue straight into basic obedience. Buyers choosing the $900 package may leave their puppy with Mark after Puppy Foundations to continue into basic obedience and go home after completing the agreed program. The training schedule and pickup date are arranged in advance based on the puppy’s age, health and progress.

Go home first and return later. Buyers may also choose to take their puppy home and book the basic obedience portion later. All puppies that have gone home must meet our returning-puppy health requirements, whether or not they completed Puppy Foundations.

Advanced training is separate. The $900 package covers Puppy Foundations and basic obedience only. Advanced Obedience costs $1,500 and is booked and priced separately. Completion of Basic & Intermediate Obedience is required first. Puppies must return at 16 weeks or older after completing the required vaccinations and any waiting period recommended by their veterinarian.

Learn alongside your puppy. Whether your puppy completes Puppy Foundations, basic obedience, or another training program, Mark personally provides one-on-one owner instruction at pickup or delivery. He will demonstrate your puppy’s skills and show you how to continue practicing and reinforcing the training at home.
